Note的英文解释是a short informal letter。从字面意思上看就是非正式的、简短的信，也就是便条。便条是相对memo来说更为简单的一种写作形式。它的格式较为不正式，语言更加口语化。它通常是一个人写给另一个人，它的对象是个人而非全体人员。例如你不能给一个部门写。一般情况下note都是手写的。
