Unforgettable experience
There are a lot of experiences that I can not forget in my life. The most unforgettable experiences were my history of political socialization in my school ages in China. All of these experiences made my life more wonderful than before.
In 1997, I was taking primary school in my hometown. There was a huge change to Chinese people because HongKong was coming back to China. HongKong was one part of China, but they broke away many years ago. That was what my history teacher told us in the class. It was sad that one part of China separated away. I felt happy and excited at that time, because I thought that was son went back to his mother. It was good for HongKong’s people and ours, especially for me.
We took a bus to the exhibition in the center of downtown. We made pictures and we used calligraphy words to make scrolls to welcome HongKong back home. That was a significant task for me. HongKong went back home after 155 years just like a child can go back to his mother. In 1997, the economy of China was fast developing, and harmonious society, so it is imperative to resume the sovereignty over HongKong. I felt proud of myself that I am the citizen of China.
On July 1 1997, we made exhibition of pottery-making at the fair. That day, the
officers visit to our exhibition and said, “Such good boys and girls you are, thank you for preparing so many stuff for HongKong’s coming back. I am going to give everybody here a diploma, and let us give the best wishes to HongKong people.” I will never and ever forget the event of that experience, it was amazing.
In 2001, China joined the World Trade Organization on December 11st. English was more important to us from that day, my dream was starting on that day. My dream was coming to United States and learning more useful knowledge in the future. That was the reason why I came American.
In 2002, the government advocated “family planning” which was one baby for one couple only. That was the second time they advocated, the first was before I born this world in my parents’ generation.
I did not understand why the government told people to do these kinds of rules. Old people said China had a large population, even that largest of the world, that was the reason why the government made these rules. I realized why I did not have any brothers and sisters, but neither did my generation. I thought that was good for us because that was the most effective way to control the population.
As a middle school student, the only thing I can do was help government to publicize. I and my classmates made small blackboard and placard for disseminating this policy at the middle school. And we also published our essay on school’s newspaper and magazine. I was the leader of that organization for that “family planning” activity. For redound, all of us added more points on the final exam for entering the high school.
