Introducion
ChengduUniversityofTechnology(CDUT)wasfoundedin1956.TheuniversitywascalledChengduCollegeofGeologybeforetheyear1993.InMay2001,twoothercollegesamalgamatedwiththeCDUT.CDUTwasoneofministerialkeyuniversitiesundertheleadershipoftheMinistryofLandandResourcesbefore2000.ItisnowoneofSichuanProvincekeyuniversities.
CDUTisadiverseuniversitywith15teachingunitsincluding14colleges.ThespecialtiesofCDUTaremainlyinscienceandengineeringwithadditionalprogramsofferedineconomics,liberalarts,management,lawandphilosophy.Inrecognitionofourstrengthandconsequence,2degreeprogramshavebeenappraisedaskeyspecialtiesatthenationallevelandother11attheprovinciallevel.CDUTalsohas2keylaboratoriesatthenationallevelandother6keylaboratoriesattheprovinciallevelandanother35researchinstitutions.Thereare53degreeprogramsforundergraduatestudents,39masterprogramsand16doctoralprograms.Inaddition,CDUToperatestwopost-doctoralresearchstations.
Morethan25,000studentsareenrolledfull-timefortheyear2004.Thefacultynumbersoftheuniversityare2021，including2academiciansoftheChineseAcademyofScience,62doctorialtutors,126professorsand261associateprofessors.Seventy-twoofthemhavebeenawardedtheStateCouncilSpecialAllowance.CDUThas2positionsforChangjiangSpecialScholarships.
Sinceitsfoundation,CDUThascompleted2200researchprojects,ofwhichover600havebeenawardedprizesatthenational,provincialandministeriallevels.Fifteenhavereceivednationalpatents.Since1992,26teachingachievementsand26textbookscompiledbyCDUTstaffhavebeenawardedprizesatthenational,provincialorministeriallevels.Withfacultyencouragement,Studentsindividuallyandinteamsparticipateinscientificresearchactivitiesandvariousnationalandprovincialcompetitionactivitiessuchas“ChallengeCup”ScientificProductionCompetition,EnterpriseProgramDesignCompetition,MathematicModelCreatingCompetitionaswellasElectronicDesignCompetition.Thesestudentsandstudentteamshavebeenawarded132nationalleveland48provincialorministeriallevelprizes.
CDUThasexcellentinternationalreputationforitsinternationalcooperativerelationshipsandexchangeswithmorethan30universitiesoutsideofChina.Morethan2,000scholarsandexpertsfrom40countriesandregionshavevisitedCDUTtoconductresearchortolecture.StudentsfromtheUnitedStates,Australia,Germany,Austria,Korea,JapanandRussiahavestudiedatCDUTindifferentfields.Over200internationalcooperativeresearchprojectshavealreadybeencompleted.Inrecentyears,theuniversityhassuccessfullyheldseveralinternationalacademicconferences.
TheCDUTmuseum,withmorethan60,000specimens,isoneofthelargestnaturalmuseumsinWesternChina.Ondisplayaremanyworldandnationalclasstreasures.Amongthesetreasuresisthe22-meter-longMamenchisaurusHochuanensis,theworld’slongest-neckedJurassicdinosaur.AnotheristheChungkingichthysTachuenses,aninfrequentcompletefishfossil.
TheCDUTlibraryholds1,350,000volumesand14,000kindsofelectronic-journals.Theuniversityarchiveisoneofthefirst-gradearchivesinChina’sresearchinstitutionsanduniversities,andoneofthelargestarchivesinSichuanProvince.
CDUTtakesgreatprideinits65,000graduates.Mostofthemhavebecomeexperts,seniorengineers,techniciansandsupervisorsinvariousfieldsanddepartmentsaroundChina.
TheCDUTcampusislocatedatthecenterofChenghuaDistrictofChengduCityneartheShanghai-ChengduFreeway.Presently,inadditiontothemaincampus,CDUThastwonon-adjacentcampuses.Withamajorcampusexpansioninprogress,thenewcampuswilloccupyanareaof133hectaresaroundthepresentmainandnorthcampuses.Thecampusexpansionwilladdanumberofresidence,teachingandresearchfacilities.
Inordertoprovidethehighestqualityeducationforitsstudents,CDUTispositionedtomakeitselfbecomeoneofthebestuniversitiesinChinaandafamousuniversityintheworld.
