在制作阿甘与已故总统会面和握手的画面时，视觉特效总监肯·罗尔斯顿及其率领的工业光魔特效团队应用了CGI技术，汉克斯在蓝屏前参照相关标记完成表演，从而与纪录片影像天衣无缝的融为一体。
为录制历史人物的声音，剧组动用了声音替身，为确保声音吻合，特效部门修改了人物的口部动作。
在一段越战场景中，背着负伤战友的阿甘必须在燃烧弹落地之前撤出战场，剧组先用特技演员拍摄了这段场景，然后让汤姆·汉克斯和麦凯尔泰·威廉逊亲自上阵，并用一根钢丝绳支撑威廉逊的体重，最后拍摄爆炸场景，再用数字技术将演员置身于现场，其中的喷气战机和燃烧弹都是用CGI添加的。
丹中尉被截肢之后，特效部门用CGI技术去掉了加里·西尼斯的双腿，西尼斯为此用用蓝布包住双腿，在拍摄起身坐入轮椅的镜头时，西尼斯恰恰可以借用“隐形”腿来支撑身体。
片中林肯纪念堂前的万人和平集会需要特效部门打造出规模壮观的人群，在为期两天的拍摄中，剧组动用了1500名临时演员，每拍完一个连续镜头，所有临时演员都要重新布置，经过电脑特效处理，现场人数猛增至数十万。
