先看一组词:
boring, bored
interesting, interested
tiring, tired
...
这些形容词,是从表达情感或心情的动词派生出来的. 表达情感或感情的时候,可能着重谈论原因、起源，或者某情感的经受者。 当谈论起源及原因时，用v+ing 形式；谈论经受者时用v+ed形式。
而并非根据主语是表示人或者事物来判断，也就是说，并非主语表示事物就用v+ing, 主语表示人就用v+ed形式。
以interesting, interested 为例：

to attract your attention and make you feel interested; to make yourself give your attention to something
使及物动词，它的宾语是人或动物
看看它的分词， interesting, interested,
而其形容词，也又这两种形式，就是形容词化的分词，所以不妨如此理解：
interesting, 有主动意义，而interested 有被动意义。
看例句：
2. The ___ children will show an interest in something ___. (interesting, interested)
正确答案是 The interested children will show an interest in something interesting.
这个例句不好，不能说清楚问题。当然，根据我们所对interested, interesting 的把握，我们可以填写出题目的答案，因为我们可以看出来出题者希望的就是如此。按我的话说，出题者一撅其尾巴，我就知道它拉几个粪球儿。哈哈。开个玩笑。
我把这个例句稍微改动：
The interesting children will show an interest in someone interested.
这句话在一定情景下，也可能说得通。
关键在于，要看说话者所谈论的某情感的源头，还是承受者。
The interested children will show an interest in something interesting.
感情趣的孩子们会对有趣的事物感兴趣。
The interesting children will show an interest in someone interested.
（这些/那些）有趣的孩子们会对（某）感兴趣的人感兴趣。
动词，interest, 是引起，刺激，激发，甚至勾引（哈哈，笑话）某人的好奇心（这里我避免了用兴趣这个字眼），
那么具备这种能力，特征，性质的，无论是人，或者事物，动物，就是interesting , 他们/它们是有趣的，这就是源头：
如果，某人，或者动物，被其他的人，动物，事物，刺激出了好奇心，被‘勾引’出了兴趣，那么这类群体，无论是人，还是动物，就是被interested, 就是对......产生了兴趣，对什么赶兴趣，产生了兴趣，这就是经历者，承受者，。
例：
Although Furong Sister is interesting, I am not interested in her.
虽然芙蓉姐姐是个有趣的人，我对她不感兴趣。
你也可以对追求你的人说：
You really is an interesting person, but I am not interested in you.
虽然你挺有趣，但我对你不感兴趣。
前半句，谈论的是源头，you, you are interesting, 所以，你能够引起别人的关注。
后半句，谈论的是承受者，情感，心情产生变化者。I ，I am not interested in you , 所以，我没被你所打动，换句话说，我没被你激发出兴趣。这里，interested 的逻辑主语，肯定不能是非动物，因为非动物不会有情感变化。
If a person is boring, this means that he makes other people bored.
如果一个人（是）无聊的，这意味着他让人感到无聊。
前半句，他能使你感到无聊，--源头
后半句， 人们感到无聊，被烦得产生情感变化-经历者
If a person is bored, this means that he makes other people bored.
这样确实有点说不通，应该是以下才说得通：
If a person is bored, this means that s/he has lost interest in sb or sth.
