House MD, Season 1, episode 7
The woman Elyse was always in bed and didn’t go to work 3days. The husband tried to wake her up after morning running, but it irritated her that she beat him on his face. Elyse thought that there may be something wrong with herself, so they went to see Doctor House. No one could figure out what’s actually the cause. House was told that Elyse was unusually irritable recently.
The team went into discussion. First, Foreman thought it was depression. Elyse declaimed that she never been to outside of America, so the parasite was exclusive. House hold it was tumor. Then after a sort of checks, it was proved that it was not tumor, and they still didn’t know what it was. Then in consideration of her mother’s dying of breast cancer, they supposed her breast cancer. But fortunately it wasn’t.
Foreman went to her work place and found it was very clean there that couldn’t be the cause of her disease. House doubted that Elyse had Africa sleeping syndrome, but they argued that she had never been to Africa.
Accidently, House got an idea from another case. It was sex that made Elyse Africa sleeping syndrome, but her husband had also never been to there before. So they drew conclusion one in this couple had affair with someone else. They both denied. Then, they had to teat her as rabbit fever. But it didn’t work, and Elyse went into a coma. House told the husband that if they didn’t take any actions right now as Africa sleeping syndrome, she would die the next day. The man in dilemma consented.
Elyse waked up, but it proved that she had affair with another man. The husband was frustrated and went away.
