African swine fever is a viral disease that affects pigs. The signs and symptoms of this disease may vary depending on the severity of the infection. Here are some of the common symptoms:

- High fever: The body temperature of infected pigs increases rapidly.

- Loss of appetite: Infected pigs often stop eating or drinking due to stomach pain or other digestive problems.

- Lethargy: Pigs infected with African swine fever tend to become lethargic and weak, which can lead to severe weight loss.

- Skin discoloration and rashes: Skin rashes, red patches, and bruises may appear on the skin of infected pigs, especially around the ears and snout.

- Difficulty in breathing: Infected pigs may experience labored breathing and shortness of breath due to lung damage.

- Vomiting and diarrhea: Pigs infected with African swine fever may experience vomiting and diarrhea, leading to dehydration.

- Abortion: Pregnant sows may have spontaneous abortions or give birth to stillborn piglets.

- Sudden death: In some cases, infected pigs may die suddenly without any visible symptoms.

It is important to note that not all pigs exhibiting these symptoms have African swine fever, as other diseases like porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) and classical swine fever (CSF) can produce similar symptoms. Therefore, if any of these symptoms are observed, a veterinarian should be consulted immediately for proper diagnosis and treatment.
